Keyword Research ...
Why is Keyword Research so important?
If you want to get your website seen on Google then you will need to apply some fundamental 'must dos'. The first, and most immediate step is to do some keyword research so that whatever you are trying to sell appears as a keyword on certain parts of your webpage.
If you don't do this and just have a picture of your product on the page with a price, it is never going to appear on Google's first page. To get Google to see it, you will have to sporadically seed it with search words which are known as keywords.
Why should keyword research and keyword choice be so important? The answer is quite simple. The Google robot comes to your site and searches for words on your pages that are relevant to what you are selling. If it finds them, and the page fulfills various other criteria as well, then you have fair chance of appearing in Google's search results for that keyword.
So, by weaving a keyword into the text of your web pages a certain number of times, the Google bot will then see that your page is relevant to that keyword, as well as various synonymous keywords that you will have also woven in. The is known as keyword seo.
Suppose you are trying to sell your ability to help improve other people's websites, just like I am trying to do in this article. I've told you that search keywords are an important facet of any serious website, so first, you should go to Google and find their keyword tool. This can easily be found by doing a search for "google keyword tool" in Google.
When it appears, simply type in the keywords that are highly relevant to your site and click the search button. A large list of relevant and synonymous keywords will appear. From this list, you can then decide what are your best search keywords to go into the sales pitch, for any particular page on your site.
You will then have to decide which of these phrases is the KEY keyword phrase for each page. Basically it would need to have a high traffic number and low level of competition from other websites.
You will see, from the results, that some phrases get typed in a great deal more than others, and the little green boxes are also full, which means there is a lot of competition from other businesses, who have also done their keyword research. What you need to do is choose words where the little green boxes are half full, but still producing a significant amount of monthly traffic. Remember that Google's simple keyword tool is one of several - there are many more sophisticated ones out there too, but they can be expensive.
In the case of this article, I have chosen the phrase 'keyword research' as the most important word to include in various parts of the page.
In the html code on the back of the page, I have also put the main phrase into the title and the description tags, and if I were to put this page on to my own website, the page would be named by the main search keyword, which I have done. As you see this page is named keyword-research.html.
I may even consider using this phrase to name my website - in this case KeywordResearch.com but I bet you ten pounds to a pinch of salt someone has already taken it.
They have - I've just checked...
