FREE Web SITE Consultancy for New Site Owners...
As more and more business wake up to the tremendous business potential that
the Internet has to offer, many business people, especially the smaller business owner, (who probably doesn't have the internal resources or the
specialist know how) will be turning to web site designers /
construction companies to build a corporate web site for them.
How can they know whether the finished site that has been designed for them is correct?
Up until now, they would have had to put their trust in their web site designer
to do the job properly!
But how do you know if they have done a 'proper
job' or not. It's not easy to tell.
Well HELP is at hand.
At Selling Online I run a Consultancy Service that can ANALYSE existing
commercial sites and send back a FREE REPORT with recommendations on

Designs are only skin
deep...
Don't get me wrong.
Designers and constructors are, on the whole, great at building good looking sites,
but, for some, that's where it ends. That beauty is only skin deep.
When you look behind the scenes, you'd be absolutely amazed at what
you'll find. In many cases there has been literally NO EFFORT
put into the optimization of the site for the Search Engines / Web Directories.
Superb looking site - but NO VISITORS! Why?... The site hasn't been
OPTIMISED properly for the Search Engines... it can't be found by any
of the Search Engines, which means NO TRAFFIC.
Unfortunately, many web site design and construction
companies do not optimise your site properly, if at all. Since you don't know
what to look for, your none the wiser!
It's only when, a few months down the line that you wonder why no-one is
visiting your site, you start to ask questions and discover the awful truth!
Getting a top
ten listing with any of the major Search engines can literally drive
hundreds and sometimes thousands of targeted visitors to your site each day!
So optimising
your site correctly is critical.
This lack of site
optimisation probably stems from the brief that was given to the
designers in the first place. Good design and construction companies will cover ALL the
aspects of web site design and search engine optimisation. But
beware, there are many that will only tell you, what suits them.
Design, Construction and
Optimization and Submission, is best approached as a an overall package.
This way your site has the very best chance is receiving hundreds if not
thousands of targeted visitors.
If you are considering setting up a new commercial site, we also work with
specialist Web Design and Web Construction Companies.
Selling Online specialises in ' Web Site
Optimization and Submissions', when you bring the four disciplines together, you have a
POWERFUL and WINNING formula for success.
I'm horrified when clients come to me and ask me to critique their site, that
they have paid a designer a substantial amount of money for (...and
that's another question altogether, how much should you be paying?) only
for me to find that although the site looks great, it hasn't a hope in
hell of even being in the top 30 results of ANY search engine.
A few of the major
questions you should consider...
To try and point you in
the right direction, I have listed just a few of the MAJOR questions
that you should be asking. I do stress, that this is only an outline
list, and there is much much more that needs to be covered.
In this example I am
assuming that you are not building a full Ecommerce site, but you are
selling products, by asking visitors to take action by telephone, fax or
email. (By the way, if you have a product that can sell directly from
the site, your sales will be dramatically increased, by as much as over
400%, if you accept credit/debit cards online - See our Ecommerce
section)
- Do NOT build your
site using Frame pages - They are search engine un-friendly.
Frames make navigation a lot simpler, but should only be used on
sites that already receive high traffic.
- Do NOT have your
opening (default) page stuffed with pictures - A large amount of
pictures on the opening page will make your site slow to load.
Having got people to your site, why take a chance that they will be
driven away because they can't be bothered to hang around waiting.
- It is critical to
insert Meta Tags into the head of each page - 'Meta Tags' are
the food that search engines live off. The most important by far is
the 'Title Tag', followed by the 'Keywords Tag' and 'Description
Tag'. Without these your site has No chance of being
registered in the top ten of any of the major search engines.
- Choose the wrong
Keywords / Keyphrases and you'll sink without trace - It is critical to
choose the correct keywords for your site. This needs to be done BEFORE
even one word has been written. Once you have made your best
guess, you should DEFINITELY use WordTracker
system to fine tune your keywords.
- Place a 'Heading
Tag' at the top of each page - Place an enticing Heading within
a 'Heading Tag' at the very start of the 'Body Tag' This must be
made up of your best keywords / keyphrases.
- At least 300 words
on your default page - The 'Body Tag' of your opening (default)
page should contain at least 300 words and contain your Keywords
/ Keyphrases repeated a few times throughout the text.
- Make sure any
pictures contain an 'Alt Tag' - The 'Alt Tag' should be made up
of a descriptive text containing your keywords.
- 'Comment Tags'
should be placed throughout the page - Invisible 'Comment Tags',
made up of your keywords, separated by a comma and space, should be
placed in the 'Head Tag' and 'Body Tag'.
- Put your Business
Contact details on every page - Place your business name,
address and contact details at the bottom of every page, as well as
your copyright.
- Search Engines -
How are your designers going to promote your site? - If you
can't be found by anyone, you won't do any business.
- Which Search
Engines will your designer submit your site to? - The top twenty
Search Engines and Directories cover about 85% of all internet
searches. Don't be fooled by being submitted to 15,000 search
engines.
- How often will they
submit your site to the Search Engines? - Most designers will
only submit your site once. This is a start, but is unlikely to get
your site into one of the coveted top ten positions in any of the
major search engines. If it does, it won't be there long. Use
specialist submission software, Web
